The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah’s demand for the resignation of commission members.
According to sources, ECP maintains that there is no legal standing of Shah’s demand as only Supreme Judicial Council can remove any member. They added that Chief Election Commissioner too doesn’t have the powers to take resignation from the members.
“If anyone has problem with the members of commission, he can approach the Supreme Judicial Council,” sources added.
Earlier, Khursheed Shah joined PTI in making demands for the resignation of ECP members.
Shah also consulted senior PPP leaders on the issue after meeting Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Talking to media after the meeting, PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira reiterated his party’s demand for the ECP’s members to step down.
