Pakistan Rangers Sindh Director General Maj Gen Bilal Akbar has suggested a joint CPLC and Rangers Special Task Centre (RSTC) under which the two, keeping their identity intact, may work together closely to curb crime and help Karachiites live and work in a peaceful environment.
During his visit, along with Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP – Karachi), Mushtaq Mehar, to Citizens Police Liaison Committee’s (CPLC), Central Reporting Cell, Sindh Governor’s Secretariat, he appreciated the efforts and contribution of the committee towards society.
The CPLC’s successful liaison with law enforcement agencies (LEAs) was particularly appreciated by the DG Rangers – Sindh and AIGP – Karachi, said CPLC sources Tuesday.
Maj Gen Bilal Akbar also appreciated the map developed by the CPLC to trace crime patterns and reiterated need for concerted efforts to identify crime hot-spots followed by joint patrolling by police and Rangers in identified localities. The Sindh Rangers’ chief said the CPLC enjoyed a good reputation amongst the citizens and LEAs and that people trust the committee for its efforts in assisting victims of crimes during the last two and half decades.
On the occasion, CPLC Chief Zubair Habib shared with the Director General Rangers and AIGP problems faced by the CPLC in its neighbourhood care projects mainly due to removal of barriers, on which Maj Gen Bilal Akbar assured the CPLC that the decision would be taken on case to case basis.
The CPLC chief said the neighbourhood care projects were presently underway at 21 different locations in Karachi and Hyderabad while several other public service schemes as CPLC schools, public toilets and free dispensaries were also functional in the metropolis. He also requested the AIGP to provide police force for guarding neighbourhood care projects operating under the umbrella of CPLC.
He said this was essential for the success of the project. Zubair Habib explained in detail the working of CPLC, its infrastructure, organisational structure and success achieved by CPLC during the last 25 years, in particular context of solving kidnapping for ransom cases besides handling matters related to extortion, lost /runaway persons and street crimes.
