First round of talks between the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) delegation and the government concluded Tuesday.
Talking to media after the meeting, MQM leader Kanwar Naveed stated that talks with the government remained “positive so far”. He said second round of talks will begin later.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Barrister Zafarfullah are representing the government whereas MQM delegation comprises Farooq Sattar, Kanwar Naveed and Waseem Akhtar. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar did not participate in the meeting.
The participants discussed formation of a committee to address the MQM’s concerns.
On August 12, the members of parliament from MQM, eight senators, 24 MNAs and 51 members of provincial Sindh assembly, tendered their resigned in protest against alleged victimisation of party workers.
Afterwards, the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had sought Fazl’s assistance to convince MQM’s 24 lawmakers to rejoin parliament for the sake of stability in Karachi.
