Gen Sharif hands over equipments worth Rs 65 million to Karachi Police for enhancing their capabilities
In order to speed up trials of outstanding terror-related cases in Karachi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday approved increase in number of military courts in Karachi.
General Sharif took the decision while chairing the security briefing at Corps V Headquarters. He was also briefed on the current security situation of the city.
The security briefing was also attended by the Karachi corps commander, Rangers Director General (DG) Major General Bilal Akbar, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) DG Major General Asim Bajwa, Sindh Police Inspector General (IG) Ghulam Hyder Jamali and representatives from the intelligence agencies.
Commending all ranks of Rangers, police, intelligence agencies and the people for significant improvement in the city’s security, General Sharif handed equipments worth Rs 65 million to Karachi police for enhancing their capabilities.
Further, the army chief directed the authorities concerned to break the nexus between terrorists, criminal mafias, violence and corruption to ensure a peaceful and terror-free port city. He directed across the board operations to eliminate terrorists, terrorists, criminals and mafias for significant improvement in security environment
Earlier, COAS visited Army Air Defence Centre at Malir Cantt and laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shahuada. He was briefed about the training activities at the centre which was founded in 1989.
COAS also pinned the badges of rank on the shoulders of Pakistan Army Adjutant General Lieutenant Gen Zamirul Hassan Shah to formally install him as Colonel Commandant of Army Air Defence.
Gen Sharif also addressed all officers and men of the Garrison. He arrived in Karachi on Monday evening amid strict security to review the overall security situation of the provincial capital city.
