A step near to end child labour!

Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said the labour department in collaboration with İnternational Labour Organisation (ILO) has launched the “Enrollment Campaign of Brick Kiln Workers Children” to materialise the dream of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif of eliminating child labour from all the brick kilns of the province.

The chief minister has given the department to eliminate child labour by May 1, 2016.

As many as 35 out of school children of brick kiln workers from Nankana Sahib district had been enrolled in Government Model Primary School Chokhiyanwala, Nankana Sahib, on Tuesday.

The Punjab government will provide free education, school bags and books to the brick kiln children enrolled to schools under this campaign.

ILO Country Director Fransisco D’O video, Punjab Endowment Fund (PEF) MD Anila Salman, Parliamentary Secretary Rana Arshad, Punjab Assembly members Sara Iftikhar, Jamil Hassan, Sardar Ramesh Singh, Mubashir Hussain, Integrated Project Director Dr Javaid Gill, employers and workers representatives also addressed on this occasion.

The speakers said that the enrollment campaign will send all the children back to school.

The minister for labour said that a monitoring follow up mechanism to ensure the sustainability of the schemes will be made through district vigilance committees (DVCs).

All out of school children of brick kiln workers’ will be enrolled in educational institutions by October 31. He also announced that this exercise will be replicated in 6,090 brick kilns of Punjab.
