Zia sent on 14-day judicial remand, PPP protests

An accountability court on Monday sent Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Punjab former president Qasim Zia to jail on 14-day judicial remand.

The accused was presented before the NAB court during which the investigation officers requested to extend Zia’s physical remand as they were unable to submit evidence against him.

After listening to the investigation personnel, court rebuffed to extend PPP Punjab former president’s physical remand.

The PPP leader served as a director for Ali Usman Securities. The company is alleged of not giving profits back to the people for past two years. The company had also not returned the money worth millions of rupees.

The company, allegedly, sold bogus shares to bag money from the people.

Zia had also served as president of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) in the past.

The NAB authorities said that the troubled customers registered complaints against the company. Following the procedure, the director has been apprehended for interrogation.

Zia was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials and is accused of committing stock market fraud of over Rs100 million.

PPP leaders and workers staged a protest demonstration outside the the NAB court over the arrest of Zia.

Talking to journalists, National Assembly Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah said Zia was being victimised for not switching his political loyalties.
