‘No polio case reported in 2015’

The Punjab Health Department spokesman has said no polio case has been reported in Punjab during current year and the province is polio free in 2015 so far.

The spokesman further said that no polio case has been reported in Mian Channu and media reports are baseless in this regard.

The spokesman said that in October 2014, paralysis had been reported in a child, Muhammad Hussain in Mian Channu, and his samples were sent to laboratory of National Institute of Health, Islamabad. He said that the said laboratory is a regional lab of WHO which analysis samples of the countries of the region including Pakistan.

The lab confirmed that the reason on paralysis was not polio.

Moreover, doctors of Nishtar Hospital Multan had also conducted CT scan of the same child in October 2014, and according to the report, the leg of the child was affected due to paralysis.

The spokesman made it clear that the experts of WHO have also consider the reports of 4-year-old Muhammad Hussain and according to medical experts and NIH report, the child was not affected due to polio virus. He said that only four cases of polio had been reported during 2014 in the province whereas Punjab is polio-free in 2015 so far.

 

 

Zia was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials and is accused of committing stock market fraud of over Rs100 million.

PPP leaders and workers staged a protest demonstration outside the the NAB court over the arrest of Zia.

Talking to journalists, National Assembly Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah said Zia was being victimised for not switching his political loyalties.
