Internationally acclaimed Pakistani animation “Burka Avenger” has been renewed for two more seasons.
In just nine months, the animation’s production team from Unicorn Black managed to produce 26 half hour episodes. The series was nominated for an International Emmy and won its creator, Pakistani musician Haroon Rashid, a Peabody award.
Set in the fictional town of Halwapur, Burka Avenger deals with social problems like gender discrimination and corruption with witty dialogue and a troupe of colorful characters. The protagonist, Jia, is a village school teacher who dons a Burka to mask her identity as she fights to right the wrongs in her hometown.
Creator Haroon has promised the new seasons will introduce audiences to “a whole other level” of animation and production, which he called a collaborative effort.
