Protests erupted in Indian Occupied Kashmir on Sunday when supporters of senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani protested against his detention.
Reports from various media sources claim that Indian police baton-charged the demonstrators and also used water cannons to disperse them. Simultaneously, a ban has been enforced on the Hurriyat convention in Occupied Kashmir and Hurriyat leader Shabir Shah has been summoned to the Indian enforcement directorate in New Delhi.
The demonstrations followed the cancelation of high-level talks between Pakistan and India’s national security advisors. The talks, which had been called “critical” by various international figures, were called off after New Delhi objected to a meeting planned between Pakistani officials and Kashmiri leaders.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry said “the scheduled NSA level talks cannot be held on the basis of the preconditions set by India”.
