On the Sindh and Punjab governments’ request for delaying the local government (LG) elections on the pretext of the governments’ preoccupation with tackling floods, law and order and security for upcoming month of Muharram, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalised a new elections schedule for the two provinces.
Per schedule, first phase of LG polls in both provinces will begin on October 31, second phase on October 19 and third phase on December 3.
According to ECP, nomination papers will be collected from September 7 to 11 while the scrutiny will take place from September 13 to 18.
Appeals against the returning officers’ (ROs) decision could be filed till September 24 and verdict on appeals will be announced by September 30. Final list of candidates will be announced on October 2 and polling in the first phase will commence on October 31.
The schedule of second phase will be released on September 3 while the schedule of third phase will be issued on September 21.
