Lahore – Our Food Correspondent: In an explosive press conference, the All Pakistan Restaurateurs Association (APRA) alleged that Punjab Food Authority boss Ayesha Mumtaz was on the payroll of the country’s ghar-ka-khana lobby.

“We have reason to believe that the Director is receiving funds from this extremely powerful lobby and we urge the chief minister Punjab to take strict notice against her,” said Shakeel Chaudhry, APRA president.

The lobby, said to be an ancient collective, consisting primarily of the nation’s mothers and grandmothers, is big on financial and social capital. “Its reach cannot be overstated,” Chaudhry said. “Several members of the provincial cabinet itself have been known to bring a tiffin to work. It is most brazen.”

“We urge the government to rein in this development and nip it in the bud,” said Ashraf Ahmed, Gen Secy APRA. “Sure, the lobby might be tempting you these days with biryani today and nihari tomorrow, but let no one forget: there will always be a day for karelay; there will always be a day for lauki ka salan.”
