The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday stopped screening of Saif Ali Khan’s controversial film ‘Phantom’ in Pakistan.

LHC Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan gave the order on a petition by Jamaatud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed seeking a ban on screening of the controversial film in Pakistani cinemas. The plaintiff’s lawyer AK Dogar told the court that the Bollywood film in question is against Pakistan and Islam.

He said the film resorts to character assassination of Hafiz Saeed and expressed concerns that the exhibition of film in Pakistan could spark anarchy.

Meanwhile, the response from the federal government said that no application has been received to screen the film in Pakistan, adding that a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) is not issued without someone filing for it.

After hearing the arguments, the LHC ordered that the film cannot be presented for screening until further orders.
