- Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leads with 395 candidates elected to district councils
At a meeting held in the federal capital on Wednesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold the first phase of Local Government Elections in Punjab and Sindh on October 12 and will issue a schedule in this regard on August 21.
According to the proposed election schedule, nomination papers would be filed with the returning officers (ROs) from August 28 to September 1. Scrutiny of nomination papers would be held from September 3 to 8.
Last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the ROs and appeals would be decided by September 12 and 17 respectively. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is September 18 and final list of candidates would be published on September 19.
In Punjab, elections in the first phase would be held in districts of Lodhran, Vehari, Okara, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Toba Tek Sindh, Sargodha, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Gujrat, Rawalpindi and Attock.
Sindh districts where polls would be held in the first phase are Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Khairpur, Larkana, Shikarpur and Qamber Shahdadkot.
Election schedule for second and third phase would be announced shortly.
Moreover, the commission has decided to hold election to the seats of Nazim and Naib Nazim of district/city/tehsil/ town councils as well as those of neighbourhood/village councils of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on August 30.

Meanwhile the official results of the local government elections held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been announced. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leads with 395 candidates elected to the district council.
In second place is Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-F) with 132 candidates elected, while ANP comes a close third with 128 candidates and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) follows with 118 candidates elected to the district councils.
Jamat-e-Islami (JI) candidates secured 65 while 51 candidates of the Pakistan Peoples Party were elected to the district council.
