Electoral Reform Subcommittee raises roof for electoral expenses

Electoral Reform Subcommittee has completed 80 per cent of its work after recommending an increase in electoral expenses on Wednesday.

Elections are now apparently not a profession of a common man anymore as the new recommendation of Electoral Reform Subcommittee has raised the roof for expenditure in electoral activities in addition to completing work on 28 clauses of electoral law.

The candidate for National Assembly will be able to spend Rs 3 million instead of Rs 1.5 million whereas candidates for provincial assembly will spend up to Rs 2 million instead of Rs 1 million, according to the new law. People aspiring for membership of Senate will be able to spend up to Rs 1.5 million.

The subcommittee has also recommended establishment for monitoring elections.
