Sindh govt ready to hold LG elections, says Khuhro

Senior Minister Information & Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said on Wednesday that in the first round of talks between the MQM and Moulana Fazul-ur-Rehman, the MQM remained positive and the second round would be held in Islamabad. He expressed the hope that the matter of MQM resignations would be resolved amicably.

He was talking to the media men after meeting American Counsel General Brian Heth here at his office on Wednesday. Khuhro said taking extreme step of resignations was not a solution to the problem as the dialogue was the only solution to every problem.

He lauded the efforts of continuing the dialogues even after attack on MQM leader Rashid Godel which, he said, showed maturity of the political parties. He said the Karachi operation was started with mutual understandings of political parties, including the MQM. It would continue without any discrimination till complete eradication of terrorists as the government would not compromise on peace in city, he added.

He said attacks on political leaders were the conspiracy to disturb the peace of the city and few elements did not want to see stable democratic process. He said the Sindh government was ready to hold local government elections in the province and it was responsibility of the election commission of Pakistan to announce the election date.

Khuhro said the federal government had assigned the task to Moulana Fazul-ur-Rehman to talk to MQM and expressed the hope that the matter of MQM resignations would be resolved soon.
