Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday gave his approval for the agenda for the Pakistan India talks to take place in New Delhi next week.
The agenda was discussed and approved in a three hour meeting with PM’s cabinet members including Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Assistant to the PM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry. The talks in question – in which Sartaj Aziz was invited to meet his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval – are scheduled for August 23 and 24. Scheduling such a meeting between their national security advisers to discuss terrorism related issues was agreed upon by premiers Nawaz Sharif and Narendra Modi during their talks in Russia in July.
The meeting was reported by a private media channel as an “amalgamation of both internal security and foreign policy matters”. Talking to reporters in Islamabad, Sartaj Aziz said that the agenda would be sent to India with a confirmation letter in order to avoid any ambiguity regarding what was to be discussed.
According to a private channel, sources claimed that Pakistan had decided to address the alleged Indian involvement in unrest in Balochistan, Karachi and tribal areas.
