Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan on Tuesday criticised the attacks on his wife Reham Khan and stated that she would not be partaking in politics or attending future PTI events.
Tweeting that he was “appalled and disgusted” by the attacks on his wife after the PTI’s loss in NA 19 elections, the PTI chief clarified that Reham only ever attended PTI events at the insistence of party members – particularly the women. Adding that he had requested her presence at the NA 246 elections, he stated that it had been a measure to encourage female voters to do their civic duty and vote. Reminding critics that PTI discouraged nepotism, he said that while his wife had been inevitably politicised, she would not be given official protocol, hold any positions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) or contest on the party’s ticket.
Khan also said that his wife, who was occupied with her work with street children, already had too much on her plate.
In related news, the party leader’s wife also announced that she was quitting her talk show, tweeting: “Just recorded my last show with Mahira Khan. Couldn’t have chosen a better last guest. #PakistaniTalent #TheRehamKhanShow.”
Showing her support for her husband, she also tweeted that she had been declining offers to join political parties before her marriage to Khan, stating that her disinterest in contesting stemmed from the fact that “those who do haven’t made Pakistan any better”.
