The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday approached the Sindh High Court (SHC), challenging the delimitations of four more cities of the province for local government elections.
MQM leader and MPA Syed Sardar Ahmed filed four petitions, challenging the delimitations of Tando Adam, Tando Jam, Nawabshah and Hyderabad and Qasimabad made by the provincial government.
MQM had already challenged the delimitations of the Karachi and Mirpurkhas’ constituencies in the SHC on Saturday.
The petitioner stated, “It is the Election Commission’s work to make the delimitations of constituencies; Sindh government have showed favoritism in making delimitations of the constituencies, which is violation of constitution and Supreme Court’s order.”Ahmed submitted is his petition that Sindh government has mixed up constituencies of urban and rural areas with one other. The objective of these limitations is to get political benefit in the local government elections, he added.
The petitioner requested the court to declare the delimitation of these constituencies illegal and restrain relevant authorities to conduct local government elections in these constituencies.
Separately talking to media outside SHC, MQM legislator for Sindh Assembly Sardar Ahmed said that he has filed four separate petitions and challenged delimitations of constituencies made by the provincial government. He said that State completes with federal, provincial and local governments but here Sindh government have showed biasness.
Sardar Ahmed said that local government election is indeed very important and his party’s idea of challenging delimitations is not to seek delay in these polls.
