The Sindh High Court (SHC) has appointed Justice (r) Khilji Arif Hussain as its Nazir to conduct election of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
The PEC chairman had filed a petition stating that election for PEC had to be conducted in July 2015 but due to some reasons they were not able to conduct the elections. Now the election is rescheduled for 30th August 2015, meanwhile, respondent had formed an inquiry committee to probe the delay in elections.
The petitioner prayed the court to direct Federation of Pakistan not to interfere into the election process of PEC, because as per PEC Act, 1976, the existing election committee of the PEC is fully empowered for conducting free and fair elections.
They stated that the governing body had already initiated the election process. They prayed to allow this body to complete re-polling process of suspended elections. The petitioner pleaded the court to appoint its Nazir to monitor the election process conducted under the existing body.
The SHC bench headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah appointed justice (r) Khilji Arif, as its Nazir to monitor the PEC election. The Nazir would have all the powers to conduct day-to-day affairs of the PEC and to operate account for conduct of day to day business payment. The paid staff of the PEC would provide all necessary assistance and would be at disposal of the Nazir.
