KP govt celebrates I-day with fervour

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Friday hoisted the national flag in a ceremony to celebrate the nation’s 68th Independence Day.

The chief minister (CM) was the chief guest at the proceedings, held on the lawns of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly. The event was also attended by several prominent figures including KP Assembly Acting Speaker Aneesa Zeb Tahirkheli,  provincial ministers, the CM’s advisers and special assistants, parliamentary leaders and secretaries, members of KP Assembly including women and minority MPAs, the chief secretary, Inspector General of Police, other high-ranking civil and police officers and newly-elected local councilors. Also present were Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) office-bearers and youth wing activists, prominent social and political figures, members of the civil society organisations, and a large number of people hailing from all walks of life.

Silence was observed as the chief minister hoisted the national flag and the attendees prayed for both the prosperity of the country and eternal peace for the martyrs of the police, Pakistan Army and children of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar.

Among the event’s performances was the famous Mahsood dance performed by a troupe of the Frontier Constabulary. The chief minister also joined the children’s choir in their renditions of national songs and presented the children with cash awards.
