Teacher unions showed deep concerns over the security situation of educational institutions in the Rawalpindi district.
According to teachers association, the Rawalpindi Education Department failed to appoint and recruit security guards. More than 200 schools from seven Tehsils of the Rawalpindi district have been declared sensitive.
In January 2015, after the tragic APS incident, the government of Punjab ordered that all schools, which were declared by police and law and enforcement agencies as sensitive for security reasons, recruit guard, install CCTV cameras, erect fences and boundary walls.
However, according to the teachers union representative the schools which were declared sensitive were still without proper security measures beside the fact that summer vacation are going to end on August 14. He said that we demand from government of Punjab and from the provincial education secretary to take immediate against the inefficiencies of the Education Department. Due to this the lives of teachers and students are at stake he said.
However, an official of the Rawalpindi Education Department told Pakistan Today that the recruitment of security guards on five year contracts would start within the ongoing month.
