Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday lauded the role of the parliament, Supreme Court and military courts in fighting terrorism, adding that although the decision of setting up military courts was a difficult decision, yet the government went ahead with it in greater national interest.
In a statement on the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Sharif said the solution of all problems facing the country was possible only with the mutual cooperation of all institutions while upholding the democratic values.
Sharif said he was happy to know that the terrorists involved in the brutal killings of innocent children in Peshawar Army School had met their fate.
“Though the parents will not be able to get back their martyred children, but bringing the terrorists to justice has given a sense of feeling to us and the parents that such criminal activities will Insha Allah soon be completely eliminated from Pakistan,” he added.
He said the manner in which all the democratic parties cooperated with the government for the establishment of military courts by setting aside their political differences was praiseworthy as it had resulted in a decrease in terrorist activities in the country.
“In this respect, the role of our armed forces in breaking the back of terrorism is exceptional,” he said.
“In terms of law and order, today’s Independence Day is far better and peaceful than last year’s Independence Day, and I pray that the next year’s Independence Day remains free from terrorism and extremism,” he added.
