Activists protest Kasur tragedy, reject JIT

Members of civil society, women and human rights organisations on Thursday held a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club in solidarity with Kasur child abuse survivors and their families.

A large number of people including the representatives of War Against Rape (WAR), Aurat Foundation, ShirkatGah, Roshni Helpline, Now Communities, SPO, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Society for Protection of Right of the Child (SPARC) carrying placards and banners, shouted slogans and demanded immediate justice to victimized children and arrest of perpetuators.

The speakers said the real culprits were powerful people of area who had financially gained from this sordid scandal. They rejected the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) nominated by the government saying it would be like previous JITs having no results.

They suggested another JIT should be made comprised of respected and well-known members of society.
