President Mamnoon Hussain urged the nation to accelerate efforts for the promotion of interfaith harmony and democratic values to help bring tolerance and religious harmony in the society.
In his message on the occasion of National Minorities Day, the President said that August 11 had a special importance in national calendar when, following principles of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, we reiterated to safeguard the rights of the followers of all faiths to bring them into national mainstream.
He said in his historic speech at first legislative assembly in 1948, Quaid-e-Azam had said that Pakistan’s basics were to make a civilised and peaceful country where followers of all faiths would enjoy equal rights.
“On this day, let us pledge to promote citizens’ equal rights, freedom of religion and religious practices, in pursuance of the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam,” the president remarked.
President Mamnoon said the present government had taken various steps for welfare of the minorities and the Minorities Day was also observed in recognition of minorities’ lives and services.
