At least three suspected terrorists were killed late Wednesday night in an alleged police encounter, while two managed to escape.

According to a police spokesman, policemen were taking two men accused of orchestrating attacks on Ahmadi worship places, to recover hidden arms, when four to five armed men opened fire at the police party on Indus Highway near Taunsa Bypass.

They managed to free the two detained men. “Police chased the attackers and in an encounter at Pull Gajoji, the three accused Muhammad Hanif, Raja Iftikhar and an unidentified gunman were killed,” the spokesman said.

The slain accused were members of a banned group, the spokesman added.

Meanwhile, a criminal was killed in Sheikhupura during a raid by CIA police at the Shabastan Chowk area. An accomplice of the slain criminal escaped from the scene, police said.

Three policemen including a sub inspector were injured in the exchange of fire with criminals.

The accused were wanted for their involvement in heinous crimes, police sources said.
