Kidnapped French woman released from Yemen after six months

A French woman who was abducted in Yemen in February 2015 along with her translator was on her way home on Friday after being freed.

Isabelle Prime, 31, had been working in Yemen for about a year as a consultant on a World Bank-funded project when she was kidnapped. Prime was seized with her translator on February 24 as they were driving to work in the capital Sanaa. Her translator Shereen Makawi was freed in March.

Prime was released late Thursday, a statement by the French presidency disclosed. The presidency said France had made “every effort to achieve this happy outcome” and “expresses its gratitude to all those who worked on this solution, including the Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, Sultan of Oman”.

Prime will return to France on Friday evening, according to French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, who, like the president, thanked Oman for its help.
