Center’s appeal rejected in bureaucrats’ promotions case

Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s Justice Amir Farooq on Friday rejected federation’s appeal to annul the nullification order of bureaucrats’ promotions until a detailed verdict.

During the case proceedings, Additional Attorney General Afnan Kareem Kundi requested the court to annul the order as “implementation is impossible until detailed verdict”. “If the federation fails to comply with the order, it would have to face contempt of court charges,” he added.

Petitioners’ counsel Barrister Masroor Shah argued that if federation has nothing to hide then it should not fear going to the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan. He requested the court to grant time to the plaintiffs to file a reply against federation’s appeal. The IHC granted time until August 11.

The development has come in after the IHC has nullified promotions of more than 300 top bureaucrats. The plaintiffs had alleged top authorities of favouring officials from certain areas and neglecting others.
