22 slums of Karachi to be regularised: minister

Sindh Minister for Katchi Abadies Javed Nagori has said that 22 slums of Karachi will be regularised and flats will be constructed for accommodation of residents in these areas.

The minister said this while chairing a meeting at his office here, said a statement issued on Thursday.

He said Raiti Lane, Mujahid Coloney, Zikri Goth, Madina Coloney, Quaid-e-Azam Coloney, Grace Village-II, Baloch Coloney, Liaquatabad Coloney, Sharifabad, DT Coloney (Extension), Khyber Colony, Allah Wala Goth, Suleman Village-II, Gharibabaad, Mohabat Nagar, Dhobi Para, Dharmi Wahra, Pehelwan Goth, Manghopir, Bangash Colony, Natha Khan Goth and other unplanned settlements will be regularised.

He said the flats would be built with the cooperation of Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD), while the concerned company will bear its cost. He pointed out that residential units would be constructed on 600 square feet and commercial on 300 square feet area. The flats will be given to the deserving families after approval of the board, he added.

KMC DEMOLISHES ANOTHER 30 HOUSES AT GUJJAR NULLAH

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) anti-encroachments squad with the help of heavy machinery on Thursday demolished at least 20 concrete houses which had been built on the route of drain and creating obstacles in the flow of water.

“The removal of these structures paved the way for cleaning of the drain through heavy machinery which was not possible before,” said the KMC spokesperson.

The resistance from cohorts of encroachments mafia was soon foiled by the police on this occasion as many buffalo forms, animal fodder shops and other illegal shops were also demolished by the anti-encroachments officials.

A camp was also set up in district central to register the complaints in this connection whereas concerned authorities have decided to carry on removal of encroachments at Gujjar nullah till the completion of drain cleaning work which has been started now with the help of machinery. The anti-encroachments operation at Gujjar nullah was monitored and supervised by the deputy commissioner of district central Afzal Zaidi along with senior director land and anti-encroachments in the presence of other officers.
