Justice (r) Wajihuddin Ahmed, whose membership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was suspended by the party’s chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday for speaking about the party’s internal affairs in public, said that he was standing by his stance that the party needs to purge itself off leaders who were not aligned with the party’s ideology and had grabbed important party positions illegally.

Talking to Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami on his talkshow DNA on Channel 24, Wajih said that he believed that PTI was an ideological party which is why he had pointed out the lapses within the party.

“I had recommended removal from party offices of four senior leaders who have grabbed the positions illegally but it seems they are more powerful and this suspension order is part of their efforts to settle score with me,” he said, adding that he does not care if the party expelled him from its ranks.

“My suspension order shows that I’m on the right path and this would motivate other ideological workers to take a stand against such people who are damaging the party,” he said, adding that it was a fight between the ideological workers and the Qaba mafia within the party.

Commenting on Mr Nizami’s remark that Imran Khan had categorically said that it was his prerogative to appoint office bearers, Wajih said that the PTI chairman should have considered this point when he himself had tasked him with probing irregularities within the party and suggesting ways to improve its working.

“What was the need of an election tribunal if Imran Khan didn’t want to follow its advice?” he concluded.
