The problems of flood-hit people would be resolved on a priority and a comprehensive strategy is under execution to upgrade flood safety infrastructure, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday while addressing flood-affectees of Kotla Ghulam Ali of Tehsil Alipur via video link.
He said a sum of Rs 500 million had already been released to build two spurs to save Alipur Tahsil from flood threat once and for all and the project was in its final phase.
Earlier, the CM also chaired a meeting through video link.
He instructed officials to utilise all resources to mitigate sufferings of flood-hit people.
FUNDS PROVIDED FOR FLOOD VICTIMS
Meanwhile, Punjab Home Minister and Cabinet Committee for Flood Chairman Colonel (r) Shuja Khanzada has said an amount of Rs 530 million has been provided to flood-affected seven districts authorities.
He was addressing a press conference at the PDMA Office on Wednesday.
Punjab government Spokesman Zaeem Qadri and PDMA DG Jawad Akram were also present on the occasion.
He said Rs 1 billion had also been provided to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for relief activities.
Shuja said collectively 469 villages, almost 300,000 people and 271,000 acre land of districts Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzafar Garh, Rajanpur, Raheem Yar Khan, Mianwali and Bhakkar were affected while no animal died.
Highlighting the Punjab government’s arrangements in view of expected flood, he said the provincial government had started its preparations early in March and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif himself presided meetings in which he suggested measures to meet flood.
