The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered a crackdown on motorcycle rickshaws known as Qingqi operating across Sindh province without route permits and fitness certificates.
While disposing of a petition seeking a ban on illegal Qingqi rickshaws in Sindh, the court directed the Sindh chief secretary, home ministry, secretary transport, the administrator and commissioner Karachi to launch a crackdown on the rickshaws being run without route permits, fitness certificates and registration.
The court also ordered that illegal Qingqis should be impounded and drivers and owners should be fined if they bring them on the road without the mandatory documents. The court also rejected the Qingqi association’s plea seeking a stay on the crackdown and fined the association of Rs 10,000 for concealing the facts.
