Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that police and Rangers have laid unforgettable sacrifices for restoration of peace in Karachi.

“All the political parties had unanimously agreed in presence of civil and military leadership to weed out terrorists, criminals and outlaws from the country in general and from the city of Karachi in particular. When peace has returned to the city, an unconstitutional demand for deployment of NATO and UN forces in Karachi has been made.”

“This is an injustice with the people of this city, the law enforcement agencies and the commitment we had made with our people,” Ali Shah said in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the terrorists, criminals and mafias had established their sway in this city of lights. The heinous crimes such as terrorism, target killing, kidnapping for ransom and extortion were on the rise and had caused capital flight and forced the people to be confined to their homes in the evening.

The chief minister further said that COAS General Rahil Shareef taking personal interest held a number of meetings in Karachi and developed a coordinated working relationship among different secret agencies, enhanced the morale of law enforcing agencies and extended special support to the provincial government.

“The Sindh government substantially increased the salaries of police men, equipped them with sensitive and latest gadgets and special trainings, considerably enhanced the compensation amount for the policemen who laid their lives in the line of their duty, and also announced cash awards not only for policemen but also for the secret agencies when they succeeded in working out important cases. These untiring, selfless, sincere and coordinated efforts by civil and military leadership have translated into peace in Karachi,” the chief minister said.

Shah said: “This city belongs to each and every one of us. We all owe a word of thanks to the law enforcement agencies which made extraordinary efforts to restore peace in Karachi.”

It may be noted that Altaf Hussain had demanded the deployment of NATO and UN forces in Karachi and termed India as a coward country for not taking any action against killing of Muhajirs in Karachi. “This is extremely unacceptable, unwarranted, uncalled for and unconstitutional demand,” he said.

The chief minister categorically said that the targeted operation was not against any political party, group or leader but it was only against terrorists, criminals and outlaws. “With the joint efforts of Sindh police, Rangers, agencies and with the backing of Pakistan army, we have controlled the crime substantially,” he reminded and also added that “only an insane person can think of approaching any foreign country, particularly India,” he said.

“We would not tolerate if any attempt is made to make the targeted operation controversial,” the chief minister said.

  1. Why does the government not approach the British and ask them to hand over this person for standing in court for the crimes he has committed here in Pakistan. At least make the attempt. I know for sure they will not accede as the british government has been prone to go against the Pakis and previously was biased against the muslims in the sub-continent throughout their rule.
