Distant learning awesome for remote areas’ education, says Mamnoon

President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday stressed on the promotion of education in remote areas of the country and said that distant learning programmes from various universities could play an important role in this regard.

Addressing at the sixth convocation ceremony of Virtual University here at Pak-China Friendship Centre, the president said the significance of e-learning had increased in modern times due to use of technology.

The president, also the chancellor of the university, said that the education and health sectors were the main areas that needed to be given priority.

He appreciated the Virtual University for promoting education in the country and abroad through its various distant learning courses.

He said introduction of contemporary educational courses at an affordable fee were a remarkable feature of the Virtual University.

The president said the country was experiencing an era of prosperity with the launch of several mega projects including China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He said the project would change the fate of the region as it would generate millions of employment opportunities and would also flourish several industries.

He said the CPEC did not belong to any political party or group but was a national project.

The president said corruption had negatively affected the society including public departments and called for boycotting those involved in corrupt practices.

He pointed that avoiding taxes was another form of corruption and stressed raising awareness about tax culture in the country.

On law and order situation, the president said with the efforts of government and the armed forces, the situation had improved to a large extent.

He mentioned that army’s Operation Zarb-e-Azb in tribal areas and the operation by law enforcement agencies in Karachi would result in complete peace in the country.

The president congratulated the graduates on achievement of degrees and also felicitated their parents and teachers for their selfless support to the students.

He urged upon the graduating students to work with dedication in national interest and become pride of their country.

President Mamnoon also distributed degrees and medals among the position holder students.
