KP Assembly wants MQM chief arrested for treason

Khyber Pakhunkhwa Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain for his “hateful” speeches against Pakistan Army and the State.

The resolution, moved by deputy parliamentary leader Shaukat Yousafzai along with other members of the provincial assembly, demanded of the federal government to arrest Hussain through Interpol and bring him to Pakistan.

“This assembly understands that Hussain’s invitation to India to interfere in Pakistan is condemnable and a letter to the United Nation is regretful,” the resolution said. It demanded the federal government to register a treason case against the MQM chief.

The House also paid tribute to police martyrs who sacrificed their lives in fight against terrorism.

As the assembly session commenced, the opposition benches demanded of the government to explain the steps being taken for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the flood affected people in Chitral.

Sardar Babak, Awami National Party (ANP)’s Jaffar Shah, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F)’s Munawar Khan and Lutfur Rahman, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP)’s Mohammad Ali, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP)’s Miraj Humayun and Arshad Umerzai and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Abdus Sattar also spoke about the damage caused by floods.

On the occasion, Local Government and Rural Development Minister Inayatullah Khan said that the assessment of devastation across the province was underway.

“We fear that floods in Chitral has caused loss of Rs 4 billion to infrastructure,” he said, adding that federal government has released Rs 500 million to the provincial government and would share losses equally with the KP government.

He said that Rs 382 million have been released to deputy commissioners’ accounts of every district. Losses would be compensated after completion of assessment survey. He added that families who lost their near and dears would be given Rs 300,000 per victim while Rs 150,000 per injured.
