National flags in all sizes fluttering at makeshift stalls on almost every road-side in the metropolis have ignited the spirits of Karachiites who always look forward for celebrations.

Festivity that can be felt thick in the air has particularly geared up the children to commemorate the fast approaching 68th national Independence Day in a little more than a week’s time. Most of the school-going kids are witnessed urging their parents to arrange for them green and white clothes that may be worn by them on the Day, August 14, while participating in series of programmes arranged as an essential ritual at their respective schools.

“My school may be opening on August 11 but I know for sure that the day will be celebrated with usual zeal,” said 10-year-old Zainab. Keenness to celebrate is not simply restricted to the school goers as scores of young hawkers are also actively engaged in selling flags and replica of national memento on all thoroughfares. Twelve years old Zahid, unable to mention as why he switched to selling flags since first day of the current month, was fully conscious that people were more receptive.

“It is definitely some thing special as my earning has improved a lot,” said the boy who sells newspapers, ball points and paper pouches to supplement his family income. The excited kid said in the coming days he would come forward with other items like badges and other small trinkets with national insignia. “I know people will appreciate this,” he said.
