An open letter to Nisar Khuhro

On a programme on Capital TV on the ongoing floods, Nisar Khuhro was very firm in his opinion that instead of wasting time on Kalabagh dam we should go ahead with Bhasha dam. For his information, Bhasha dam will moderate the floods in the Indus above Tarbela dam and not below it. It is the floods in the seven tributaries of the Indus below Tarbela dam, namely Kabul, Chitral, Swat, Kurram, Siren, Haro and Soan, which are devastating South Punjab and Sindh today and will continue to do so even after Bhasha dam is built. It is only Kalabagh dam which can moderate the floods in these river-sized tributaries. One look at the map of the country will confirm the above.
