Sindh govt reluctant to fill Grade-20 doctors’ posts

Shortage of senior general cadre doctors of BS-20 has surfaced in Sindh as after retirement of Dr. Safiullah Abbasi from the post of Medical Superintendent, Chandka Medical College Hospital, Sindh Government, on August 31, 2015.

No other BS-20 officer is posted on the vacant slot though Dr. Abbasi applied for retirement three months back as per rules and his notification was also issued on June 02. The Health Department has so far failed to find his substitute, however.

Dr. Dost Muhammad Shaikh (BS-19), who was working as Additional Medical Superintendent (General) has been handed over the charge, who himself is also going to retire on August 15, 2015.

According to reliable sources, there are 76 posts of BS-20 in the province out of which over 36 are lying vacant. The meeting of Selection Board-1 was held recently to promote BS-19 senior doctors to BS-20 but their turn came very late and the Sindh Chief Minister left the meeting without approving their cases.

A list of 40 deserving doctors has already been finalised by the Health Department which now only requires approval through the selection board meeting.

A list of 44 officers of BS-20 was prepared in 2013 out of which 32 will retire by the end of December 2015, and only 12 will be available to serve the Health Department in the province in 2016, reliable sources said.
