The Mumbai cricket Association has ended Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan’s five-year ban from the Wankhede stadium, two years prior to the official deadline, according to a report on the Times of India website.
Ahead of a Managing Committee meeting on Sunday, certain members of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) wanted the ban ─ which was to expire in 2017 ─ to be lifted a couple of years early since the actor had already ‘respectfully’ adhered to it for three years.
The 2012 ban “was a unanimous decision,” MCA President Vilasrao Deshmukh had said, adding that action would be taken against whoever broke the law.
The MCA said that Khan, the Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner, should not have entered the ground after the game, saying Khan had misbehaved and used foul language when officials asked him to leave.
They also tried to stop a group of children, including Khan’s daughter, from playing on the field.
Khan had denied accusations that he was drunk or behaving illegally, and had said that he became angry when officials at the stadium abused him and “physically manhandled” the children.
