Water meters need of the hour: Awan

The committee constituted by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for installing maximum water meters had been asked to submit the proposals along with the estimates to the Punjab Minister for Housing, Communication and Works Malik Tanveer Aslam Awan by August 13, Pakistan Today has learnt.

In a meeting with the senior officer, the minister stressed the need for installing water meters for stopping the wastage of water, checking of leakage, increasing water pressure and revenue.

“Along with the domestic consumers, water meters must also be installed in the industrial as well as the commercial areas,” said Awan, adding that the meters in the city should be increased from 0.6 million to 1 million, while in Faisalabad they should be increased from 0.129 million to 0.2 million, in Rawalpindi the water meters should be increased from 0.105 million to 0.2 million and in Gujranawala from 27,000 to 0.1 million.

The meeting was also attended by Punjab Assembly members (MPAs) Majid Zahoor, Muhammad Nawaz Chohan, WASA Vice Chairman Mian Irfan, WASA MD Syed Zahid Aziz, Khalid Bashir Butt, WASA Director Naseem Khalid, Director Industries Anwar Zahoor Qazi while officers of departments concerned also attended the meeting.

MPA Majid Zahoor told Pakistan Today that the installation of new water meters is the need of the hour which would help in overcoming the wastage of water and increasing the water pressure which would benefit the consumers of domestic, industrial and commercial areas.
