In the support of traders, the Sindh Bus Owners Association demanded of the government to withdraw their decision of exorbitant and unjustified move for imposing 0.6 per cent withholding tax on bank transitions.

The association has threatened the government for carrying out a protest rally and also halting their transport all over Sindh province if their demand is not met. The was jointly stated in a statement by Association’s President Mir Afzal Khan, Vice President Naimatullah and General Secretary Abdul Rasheed Memon issued on Friday.

Mir Afzal said they were also traders and saw the government’s act against them as well. He said they had decided to join the traders until the government realised its mistake of charging such a huge tax on bank transactions. He further said that transporters had decided to gradually withdraw their savings from bank accounts as a mark of protest against the recently imposed 0.6 per cent adjustable advance income tax on bank transactions.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) termed the withholding tax on bank transactions a ‘cruel move’ and said it would badly affect business activities. “Any delay in withdrawal of the tax will further damage business sentiments across the country,” the JI said in a statement.
