SC rejects police report on investigation funds, summons CS

Rejecting the second report submitted by the Sindh IG Police on distribution of funds for strengthening the police investigation wing, the Supreme Court observed that the corruption in police department had increased threefold.

Headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim, a three-member bench had taken up an application seeking disbursement of the funds meant for the police’s investigation wing. At the outset, IGP Ghulam Haider Jamali submitted a second report on the disbursement of the funds provided by the provincial government. The judges expressed displeasure over AIG Finance nor IGP Jamali for not providing required details.

Justice Hani remarked that the level of corruption had increased threefold in the police department since the incumbent IG had taken the charge. He went on to observe that situation of law and order in the city was worsening but the IG had withheld the funds given to strengthen the investigation wing of police.

Rejecting the report, the bench ordered the chief secretary to appear on August 4 so that he could inform the court on the working of police as no serious efforts had been made by the IG police to improve the working of the police within their department.
