Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday told the National Assembly (NA) that the ongoing operation in Karachi against crime and terrorism has resulted in a 43 per cent decrease in targeted killings, 37 per cent decrease in incidents of murder, and a 6.7 per cent decrease in incidents of terrorism.
Briefing the House, Nisar said that along with 713 terrorists, 58,603 suspects have been arrested during the operation so far. Of this number, at least 731 were suspected of murder while 517 were suspected of involvement in extortion cases. He added that police and Rangers had seized 14,253 illegal weapons and that the number of fugitives increased by 9.4 per cent during the operation.
During his address, Nisar also stressed on the need for providing training to private security guards, and urged all private security companies to get the required security clearance for their employees besides arranging for their proper training. “Police and civil armed forces are ready to provide training free of cost to private security companies.”
Nisar said that there should be standardisation among policies followed by the provincial and federal government regarding policies concerning non-governmental organisations (NGOs), weapons and security agencies. He said that the Interior Ministry was working on new policies concerning the Exit Control List, arms licences, security agencies and the visa policy.
Karachi witnessed a 43% decrease in target killing,…It was state sponsored to justify operation in Karachi and against a particular community ,the same drama was played in 1992 ,Hakeem Saeed was killed to justify Governor rule and operation against MQM,if it not true do independent investigation..
I fully endorse statement for reduction in target killing in Karachi which has been made possible by efforts of law agencies with improving intelligence net work . My son who is engineer in Karachi told me street crimes have been controlled and atmosphere of terrior is shedding .
