Pakistan bags five medals in Special Olympics 2015

Special athletes of Pakistan bagged five medals on Wednesday in the ongoing Special Olympics World Games 2015 being staged at Los Angles.

Pakistani athlete bagged one silver medal in swimming, two silvers in cycling and two cyclists also grabbed one bronze medal each. Young Special Olympian Aqsa Ahmed Janjua brought the first medal to Pakistan in 50 meter free style. The gold medalist of this event was Luo Xiau Chun of China, with 55.90 timing whereas third position was captured by Skrij Ema of Slovenia, with 58.61 timing.

Mehmona Hussain won the first silver in 500 meter race of female cycling race. Her time was 1.15.72, she was fractionally behind Indian competitor Meera Kumari whose timing was 1.14.58. In another 500 meter time and trial race Khadija Irfan won second silver for Pakistan, her timing was 2.23.44.

Salman Siddiqui and Usman Saeed bagged bronze in 500 meter time and trial cycle race to complete the day with two silvers and two bronze for home. Uzma Yousuf and Sumbal Yousuf finished eighth (last position) in same time and trial cycle races.

PAKISTAN DEFEAT PORTUGAL

In basketball, Pakistan defeated Portugal by 23-10 in the first round robin match of Division 3. Other two teams in this group are Israel and Poland. Special Olympian Muhammad Usman was unstoppable during the match and remained top scorer and earned decisive 12 points. Akhtar Ali Khatak bagged 2 points, Zahid Muhammed Abuzar 4 points and Waheedur Rehman 5 points.

PAKISTAN BEAT VENEZUELA IN FOOTBALL:

Meanwhile, Pakistan Football team showed an impressive performance in the first main round robin match of Division 3, with a superb 3-0 win over favorite Venezuela in world games special Olympics on Tuesday at Los Angles .

Six teams are divided into two groups of A & B in the football competition in which, Pakistan is placed with Vanezuella and Isle of Man.

Pakistan put the pressure on Venezuela team from the beginning of the play and dominated the proceedings.

Pakistan’s forwards attacked several time on opponents goal but the excellent performance of Venezuelan goal keeper foiled many ideal sitters. From Pakistan Shehryar struck twice and Abuzar (having only one hand) scored one.

In group A Italy, Nippon and Sylvania are competing against each other in round robin main round matches.

Tomorrow, on Wednesday Isla of Man will play Venezuelans and on Thursday, Pakistan will be competing against Isla of Man.

Top two teams will compete in the knock out stage.
