Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday told a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) that Rangers’ activities in Karachi are in accordance with the law and their objective is not to push the MQM or any other political party to the wall.

An MQM delegation led by Dr Farooq Sattar had called on the interior minister to discuss the security situation in Karachi with special emphasis on the arrests of MQM workers by the paramilitary force.

Nisar told the MQM delegation that the government would look into the concerns expressed by the party, but added that it was important that all political forces support the anti-crime operations in Karachi to bring peace to the city.

The MQM delegation said that they supported the operation but feared that it was being used to persecute supporters of the party.
