An enquiry report into a payment of Rs 1 billion to a contractor in advance by the civic agency’s engineering department has gone missing, a reliable source said.
The inquiry into the wrong payment of Rs1 billion to contractor of Sewerage Treatment Plant in Sector 1-9 by the CDA engineering department has disappeared and the civic agency has reportedly misled the National Accountability Bureau by submitting an incorrect internal inquiry report.
According to the source, Member Engineering Shahid Sohail, Abdul Jabbar Malino and other nine officials were put under investigation into the scam, where advanced payment was made to the contractor, who later provided faulty equipment to the treatment plant.
According to the source, on the advice of Sohail, CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal has put an end to the inquiry while sweeping the internal investigation under the carpet.
Various inquiries were on-going against Sohail and other officials in CDA, however they have saved their skin by disappearing the record into the internal inquiry.
“Member engineering Shahid Sohail, former member CDA Abdul Jabbar Malino and three other officials are allegedly involved in advance payment of Rs1 billion to the contractor of the sewerage treatment plant,” the source claimed.
When contacted, Sohail said that the inquiry report was submitted in the CDA in 1983, which has been missing. He said that the record of the inquiry report was not available in the CDA record. He, however, said that the amount of Rs1billion has been exaggerated while the payment has been made in millions.
