Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar Monday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) should accept the report of the enquiry commission and look forward to a prosperous future of the country.

Responding to a point raised by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah, the minister endorsed Shah’s views and said that the enquiry commission report should be made public and placed before the House. However, he added that copy of the accord between the government and PTI should also be placed before the House.

Dar said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was mandated by all political parties to constitute the enquiry commission, adding that several meetings were held for formulation of the agenda and the commission. He said that all the political parties had representation in these meetings and they reached a consensus on four controversial points. The minister said that it was decided in the ordinance that the enquiry commission would submit its report to the federal government within 45 days. It was also decided that the report would be made public, he added.

The minister said that it was for the first time in the history of Pakistan that the ruling party, with two-third majority, had inked a deal with the opposition parties that if rigging was proved the PM would dissolve the National Assembly and general election would be held. Dar said that it was also part of the accord that if PTI’s allegations were not proved in the enquiry commission, then they would withdraw their allegations.

The minister said that PTI should take it a new beginning after the inquiry commission’s report. He said that Prime Minister Sharif had shown humility in his speech to the nation but despite the agreement, the PTI was still stuck to its allegations.

The minister said that the country was facing numerous challenges and everyone should unite on national issues. “The prime minister has always taken on board all the political forces on major national issues, including, China Pakistan Economic Corridor, National Action Plan and Operation Zarb-e-Azb,” he said, adding that Pakistan has a great potential and with collective efforts “we could make it a developed country”.

Earlier, Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah told the House that the opposition had played a vital role in strengthening the parliament. It was also the opposition that brought those into the parliament who were protesting in front of it.
