As per the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Secretary Information & Culture Momin Agha has reviewed the flood relief arrangements in district Narowal on Sunday.
He inspected the under-construction protective bund on Nullah Daik at Mouza Chahor and directed authorities concerned of the Irrigation Department to complete the project by working round the clock at any cost so that the localities of the area could be saved from flood in Nullah Daik due to expected rains of monsoon in first week of August.
Additional Secretary and Punjab DG Minerals Raja Khurram Shahzad and DCO Narowal Syed Najaf Iqbal and other officers of local administration were also present on the occasion.
The secretary Information inspected various parts of under-construction protective bund on this occasion.
The local authorities of the Irrigation Department informed him about the details of construction work of the bund.
They said that the project was launched last year and work of strengthening of spurs with stones is speedily continuing in the last phase of the project.
He was told that about five million rupees will be spent on the construction of this five-kilometre-long protective bund and after completion of the project, dozens of villages of the area affected due to the flood of Nullah Daik every year will become safe.
The secretary Information expressed satisfaction over the pace of work and directed to complete the work as soon as possible in order to achieve desired results of the project.
Earlier, DCO Narowal Syed Najaf Iqbal, while briefing to secretary Information & Culture about Flood Control Plan Narowal 2015, said that all arrangements have been completed for coping with any emergent situation in the district. He said that places have been selected for setting up of 17 flood relief camps for the affectees, out of which, five flood relief camps are working at present. He informed that Rescue 1122 Narowal has 12 motor boats in operational condition for safe rescue of people from affected areas during possible flood which will be immediately sent to affected areas if needed.
