Provincial Minister for Anti-Terrorism and Cabinet Committee on Flood Chairman Colonel (r) Shuja Khanzada has said an amount of Rs 5 million has been released to DCOs of affected districts for relief and rescue activities and relief work is continuing speedily in flood-hit areas.
He said this while presiding over a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Flood on Saturday.
Khanzada said duties had been assigned to ministers, secretaries, members of Cabinet Committee on Flood and other senior officers in affected districts who will visit these districts and keep the committee updated regarding flood fighting arrangements.
On the reservations of secretary Irrigation about construction of bunds, the provincial minister said the district administration should not construct any bund without technical consultation with the Irrigation Department.
He said report should immediately be submitted about such bridges of National Highway Authority and Railways which are not in good condition and talks should be held with senior officers of these departments in this regard.
He said that the construction work of bunds and spurs in affected districts should be carried out in shifts so that work should be completed at the earliest.
The minister directed secretary Irrigation and PDMA DG to submit a report with mutual consultation about those districts which were under threat of flood so that these districts should be focused and a pre-plan of flood fighting should be prepared.
The meeting decided that PDMA should prepare 50,000 food hampers and keep them in stock so that these could immediately be sent to affected areas at the time of need.
“The flood affectees should not face any difficulty regarding provision of food and other facilities,” he added.
The meeting was told that the water level in River Sindh is receding, however, there can be problem in rivers Jhelum and Chenab in coming days, therefore, the protective arrangements should be reviewed and a report be submitted.
The meeting was told that India is not cooperating regarding discharge of water and can release water without prior information, to which, he said that officials of the National Disaster Management Authority should contact India through the Foreign Office that it should inform timely about discharge of water.
