Rain forecast: IGP orders AIG, DIGs to adopt extraordinary measures

Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Haider Jamali has issued directive to AIG Karachi and Range DIGs of the province to adopt extraordinary measures in the wake of forecast about heavy rainfall.

He said leaves of all sort should be cancelled and those on leave should be directed to report on duty. “All supervisory officers including SHOs, SDPOs and district SSPs should not leave their station. Mechanism of patrolling shall be devised near banks of water channels and in Katcha areas facing threats of floods to get first hand information regarding any developing situation. Maintain proper, effective and continuous liaison with relevant departments like irrigation, meteorological department, district administration, local units of Pakistan Army and Rangers and NGOs involved in relief works.”

He said: “Maximum help and support should be extended to people in distress and ensure measures for the safety and security of life and property of displaced persons. Establish effective modes of communication with general public so that people in distress may contact them in case of emergency. Facilitate NGOs and governmental departments working for relief of people.”

Wherever needed, co-ordination with police hospitals Karachi, Hyderabad and Thatta for establishment of medical camps at far-flung areas must be enhanced and optimum resources be exploited to maintain law and order and ensure crime-free environment, the IGP directed.

“Share update information with central police office through 24/7 operational IGP operations room on telephone numbers 99213081, 99212064-65 and fax number 99213836. Above directions shall be complied with in letter and spirit and no laxity will be tolerated in this regard,” the IGP added.
