The Islamabad Police have refused to provide security to media houses, asking them to make their own security arrangements.

A source in the police department said that media owners had requested the police to provide security to media houses, however, the police refused to entertain the request citing shortage of police personnel.

“At a meeting with police officials recently, Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Sultan Azam Temuri has asked them to convey to the media houses that they make their own security arrangements as the police did not have sufficient manpower and funds to provide security to each and every media house,” said the source while sharing the minutes of the meeting.

The Islamabad police have asked media house to hire and train security staff and acquire state-of-the-art equipment besides setting up foxholes to secure the buildings housing their employees. The police have, however, made it clear that they would be ready to assist them in case of an emergency or any untoward incident.

According to the source, around 1,500 police personnel have been on security duty in the capital and cater to provincial ministers, parliamentarians and other VIPs including diplomats.
